Use
standard Boolean links such as "and, not, or" between keywords. Phrases do
not require the linking "and". For example, use the search path "notropis bifrenatus
and new hampshire" to retrieve records of that species from that state.
Searches
of the Atlantic Ocean can use the 23 provinces established by Backus et al
(1977). These are best used in conjunction with a generic or family keyword
since searches of some of the provinces can result in the return of over 20
thousand records . The provinces must be spelled as follows: Atlantic Subarctic,
Northern Gyre, Slope Water, Gulf of Mexico, Azores-Britain, Mediterranean
Outflw, W Mediterranean, E. Mediterranean, North Sargasso Sea, South Sargasso
Sea, N North Afr Subtrop, S North Afr Subtrop, Lesser Antillean, Gulf of Mexico,
Caribbean Sea, Amazonian, Guinean, S Atlantic Subtrop, N Mauritanian Upwel,
S Mauritanian Upwel, and S Atlantic Temperate. A suggested search might be
"paraliparis garmani and slope water."
